ISSA-LA November Lunch Meeting

November 18, 2015 @ 11:30 am - 1:45 pm

Topic: In our hacker intelligence report, we demonstrate a new type of attack we call “Man in the Cloud” (MITC). These MITC attacks rely on common file synchronization services (such as GoogleDrive and Dropbox) as their infrastructure for command and control (C&C), data exfiltration, and remote access. Without using any exploits, we show how simple re-configuration of these services can turn them into a devastating attack tool that is not easily detected by common security measures. Since most organizations either allow their users to use file synchronization services, or even rely on these services as part of their business toolbox, we think that MITC attacks will become prevalent in the wild.

Speaker: Mr. Shan Zhou is an 18-year veteran of applying security strategies and technologies to enable business success. Shan has worked with innovative category leaders in the areas of data protection, advanced threat protection, and intrusion prevention. Prior to joining Skyfence, Shan held various leadership positions and contributed to successful public offerings at Sourcefire, Imperva, and FireEye. Having specialized in connectivity, perimeter, and data protection solutions, Shan now focuses on security implications of cloud adoption. Shan can often be found speaking at public and private events as a security subject matter expert and attending innovation events around the globe. Shan currently serves as Vice President of Security Engineering for Imperva Skyfence.
