ISSA-LA January Lunch Meeting

January 17 @ 11:30 am - 1:45 pm

Topic: Stop Making It Easy for APTs

When determined and resourced, sophisticated adversaries can (almost) always find their way into a target network. They collect lots of information off the Internet about their target: who works there, who is a good target, what tools/exploits should be used, what kind of network will they land in, etc. Understanding how adversaries use open-source tools and data sources to target your network helps understand your (larger than expected) attack surface, prevent attacks, and train/prepare your business to make smart decisions about what they share and how. We’ll talk about how adversaries do this, interspersed with real-world examples of how the most sophisticated actors do this.

Speaker: Jason Kichen
Jason Kichen serves as the Director of Cybersecurity Services at Versive. Mr. Kichen had a 13-year career as an intelligence officer at the Department of Defense and in the intelligence community as an expert in technical and offensive cyber operations. He was responsible for the design and execution of advanced technical operations all over the world and has extensive experience interacting with the most senior levels of the United States government. He has an undergraduate degree in political science and history and a post graduate degree in telecommunications engineering management. He was awarded two Director of National Intelligence Meritorious Unit Citations amongst many other awards and commendations bestowed upon him by the Department of Defense, agencies in the Intelligence Community, and various federal contractors.
